Good captions make your idea clear

Someone may open your reel with the sound off. At that point, the text becomes part of your explanation: it should tell them what you are talking about and why they might keep watching. A beautiful font cannot help if a sentence is confusing or changes the meaning of your words.

Start with the text, then work on its appearance. Imagine a viewer who does not know your subject and has never seen your videos. Can they understand each phrase? Do they have to guess what a term means? These questions are more useful than finding the most striking effect.

Use caption autocorrection in ReelFab

ReelFab adds captions to your video and includes caption autocorrection. AI helps correct the text, and you can make your own adjustments and choose a style in the editor. You have a starting point instead of a blank page.

Read through the captions after the automatic processing. Pay particular attention to words that depend on context: a person's name, a product name or a specialist term. Check numbers and make sure the wording matches what you intended to say.

Avoid changing the meaning of your speech just to make a sentence sound smoother. If the voice and text explain different things, your viewer has to process both versions. An edit should make you easier to understand while keeping your original point.

Choose a clear caption style

Check on a smaller screen

Text that looks large in a desktop editor may feel different on a phone. Watch the video at a size your audience is likely to use. You should be able to distinguish the letters without bringing the screen closer to your face.

Check against the background

Light text can disappear against a pale wall. A busy background can compete with brightly coloured letters. Choose a style that remains readable across the lighter and darker parts of your video. Review several frames rather than judging only the opening.

Leave room for the demonstration

Captions should not cover the object or detail you are showing. Consider the platform's interface when previewing your post, too. If text constantly competes for space, leave more empty space in the frame the next time you record.

Watch twice before publishing

First, listen while reading. Check that the captions follow your speech and preserve its meaning. Then switch the sound off and watch again. Can you read the phrases comfortably and still understand the main idea?

Use this short checklist:

  • Names, terms and numbers are correct.
  • The text matches what you said.
  • The style is readable across different shots.
  • Captions leave important details visible.

You can make changes in ReelFab on your phone or computer. Edit wherever you feel comfortable, then review the result on the device you usually use to watch reels. Once the text is ready, choose a cover that makes the topic clear before the video starts.
