Getting started

Your first reel: from an idea to a finished video

A practical starting point for new creators: choose one idea, record short takes and put your first reel together with ReelFab.

Start with one useful idea

A first reel can get stuck between “I want to share this” and “I will have to edit it.” You imagine a complicated timeline, awkward takes and an evening at your computer. Make the task smaller before you start filming: one video, one useful idea.

You do not need to introduce your entire blog at once. Choose a question you know well: how to start a workout, find good light for a photo or avoid a common beginner mistake in your field. A specific question gives your video a clear purpose.

Write down three points:

  1. The situation. What is your viewer struggling with?
  2. The advice. What is one action they can try?
  3. The example. What does that action look like?

A complete script is optional. A short outline can help you speak naturally without losing your place. If you have too much to say, save part of it for another video.

Record one phrase at a time

Keep your phone steady, check the light and record a short test. Listen back before continuing. Clear speech matters more at this stage than a clever transition. Move away from background noise if it makes the words hard to hear.

Record your first point, pause, then move to the next one. A mistake in one sentence does not mean you need to repeat the whole story. Record that sentence again and continue. There is no need to deliver everything in a single breath.

A steady shot and a clear explanation are enough to begin. Add another shot when it shows something your audience needs to see. Recording lots of extra footage creates more choices to make later.

Your filming outline: one viewer question, one useful answer, one concrete example. Keep those three lines next to your camera.

Let AI make the first edit

Upload your clips to ReelFab. Its AI edits your video in 3 minutes and adds captions. You now have a version to watch from beginning to end and assess as a complete explanation.

Open the editor to make adjustments. Choose a caption style, revise the text or add more clips if your explanation needs an example. ReelFab works through the website on your phone or computer, wherever you prefer to work.

As you watch, ask yourself whether a new viewer could understand your advice. If the answer is unclear, improve the wording. Another visual effect cannot always fix a confusing sentence.

Check before publishing

  • Watch with sound: the phrases should form a clear story.
  • Watch without sound: the captions should communicate the idea.
  • Check that text does not cover your face or an important detail.
  • Choose a cover that reflects the topic honestly.
  • Make sure the opening delivers on the cover's promise.

Your first video does not need to show everything you can do. It needs to share one useful idea and take you through the full process. Keep this outline for your next reel so you can focus more attention on what you want to say.
